Farmhouse Transformation in Antrim, New Hampshire

Updated: 5 days ago

Nestled on 100 acres of farmland in New Hampshire's Contoocook Valley, Tenney Farm is a diversified and sustainable fruit and vegetable farm, bustling farm stand, and destination for lunch and all-natural ice cream. Its adjacent farmhouse—once a dairy barn—was built in 1900, re-sided in the 1950s, and converted into a four-story, 5,428-square-foot home in 1970.

Time to 'Get it Done'

By 2023, the historic Tenney Farm Homestead needed extensive exterior repairs. “The wood siding and windows were rotted, falling apart, and drafty,” says fourth-generation Tenney Farm owner Hunter Salamy.  “You could hear road traffic and it was hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It was time to get it done,” he adds.

Choices. Choices.

While deciding to renovate his home was easy, selecting the best company for the job required more work.  It was a six-month ordeal,” Hunter says. “I did a ton of research—going through customer reviews, looking at different materials, and deciding which ones I wanted to use. I talked to four siding and window companies to ensure I made the best choice for my investment.”

Hunter decided to work with Universal, selecting our UniShield® Full-back Insulated Vinyl Siding in the color Juniper Ridge. Our US-made siding features reduced outdoor sound transmission, and increased energy efficiency, durability, and comfort.

He also selected our exclusive Unishield® Energy-efficient Vinyl Windows.  ”Universal’s windows are great! I have purchased windows from other nationally known companies and was not impressed,” Hunter says.

Why Universal?

During his search, Hunter found significant variations in the quality of window and siding materials. “A lot of companies use cheap materials, including thin, low-quality vinyl. When you sit down and compare these other options to Universal’s, it's not even close,” he says.

“I wanted to go with the most professional company I could find—with the best materials and workmanship. I never felt like I had to watch what was going on—they knew what they were doing. I went with Universal because I wanted the project done right so I would never have to think about it again,” Hunter says.

“This is a BIG house and Universal’s outstanding team was able to complete the project within roughly seven days—I could NOT believe it! Some of the other estimates I got were one to two months. I was blown away,” he says excitedly.

“Universal was the most professional company I could find. I was very impressed. They were courteous and easy to communicate with and work with. They always picked up the phone on the first ring—I couldn’t believe it!”
