The story of our founder and opening your local Universal Windows Manchester location — the only one of its kind in New England.
Our Founder, Sean Dodge
After all, our founder Sean Dodge could’ve aligned himself with any number of other brands or curated a small selection of exterior remodeling products from different manufacturers. We’re talking about a guy who was getting awards from within the industry decades ago! He’d seen and done it all BEFORE taking the leap and starting his own business. Because for you, our customers, it’s a genuine ‘Best Of Both Worlds’ matchup: unprecedented resources with family-owned and run operations; fast national networking with small-town project management; proven quality with local expertise.
Universal Windows Direct: Constant and Never-Ending Improvement
Since its inception by co founders William Barr and Michael Strmac in 2002, Universal Windows Direct has lived by the philosophy of CANEI – “Constant and Never Ending Improvement." This philosophy holds true in all aspects of our business, from sales and marketing to installation and service, and has catapulted UWD from a small, local home improvement company to one of the largest exterior remodeling companies in the country.
Every one of our employees strives continuously to be the best in the business at what they do and provide our customers with only the highest levels of sales, service, and support. We think our company’s history speaks to this goal and to the power of what we can accomplish by never settling.
We don’t stock windows, doors, siding, and roofing materials or products. Every finely-crafted home improvement product we install on homes here in New Hampshire and Northern Massachusetts is custom measured. In fact, the LAST thing Sean Dodge was looking to found and build was just another cookie-cutter-like exterior remodeling company. His background in the local New Hampshire industry stretches back decades. He started working in lumber yards as a young man in high school, paying his dues until he moved to inside sales and began rubbing elbows with big names in New England manufacturing, materials, distribution, and installations.
After college (HUGE shoutout to the University of Maine!), Sean stayed in the industry. Whether he was selling home building supplies, working in a remodeling supply center, or overseeing major operations, it was a long journey to becoming an entrepreneur himself in 2015.
UWD Manchester began in his Bedford, NH home and has grown by leaps and bounds thanks to our own flavor of fantastic quality, service, coverage, and craftsmanship. This growth has allowed us to open up a second Manchester location and use our resources to give back through donated time, money, and sponsorships around the area. We couldn’t be prouder!
